When you think Texas, you think big: big skies, big oil, and big football. But deep in the swampy southern corner of the Lone Star State, where the air steams like a brisket, Hamilton was called to build something bigger—a custom trailer designed to haul massive spools bound for an offshore oil rig.
The order came from one of North America’s largest engineering and construction companies. The ask? Design a 20,000-pound capacity trailer to carry multiple spools that look like giant sand worms. We engineered the trailer with repositionable “V” cradle risers to support multiple spool sizes and configs. Crews can shift them around on the fly like industrial-strength Tetris blocks. It’s the kind of flexibility that means fewer trailers, faster moves and happier crews.
The final design measures 96 inches wide by 240 inches long and features caster steering for superior stability. And since the trailer needs to travel indoors and out, we designed it to operate with an e-pusher—no forklift required.
Of course, south Texas isn’t exactly gentle on equipment. Between the scorching heat, humidity and salty coastal air, most equipment cries uncle. That’s why we spec’d the trailer with solid pneumatic tires instead of polyurethane. Where poly might melt under pressure and moisture, solid pneumatics laugh in the face of soggy runways and searing pavement.
Just more proof that when the heat is on, Hamilton keeps its cool and its cargo.
